Felsõörs

Felsõörs, this characteristic Balaton Highlands settlement kindly offers its fascinating panorama and cosy atmosphere to those who would like to relax and enjoy themselves.

The village is proud of its church built in the 13th century during the so called Árpád Period i.e. the age that followed the Hungarian Settlement in 896 AD and was named after its leader Prince Árpád. The church is said to be the most beautiful Romanesque style one in the Balaton Highlands. In summers, organ concerts are held here on a regular basis attracting a lot of visitors.

Spring Hill in Felsõörs offers geological, paleonthological and geological objects of international interest. Thanks to the diligent work of hardworking geologists the first geological substratum of Hungary was discovered here. Supported by the Ministry of Conservation the findings are displayed at the Geological Exhibition.

There is a typical, museal price inn in Felsõörs called the Udvarház (approx. The Farmhouse) which recalls the old folk traditions with its home-made dishes and authentic furniture. This country-house was built in 1862 and has been renovated preserving its original features. In 1997, the Udvarház was awarded the House of the Year prize given by architects. Actually, the centre of Felsõörs with its old and lovely buildings is a real representation of how architecture and landscape can live together in harmony in the Balaton Highlands.

The village is a frequented hiking place for those who spend their holiday at Lake Balaton. Szabadság (Freedom) Look-out is an excellent and easy-to-reach goal for the less experienced tourists as well. From here you can see the wonderful view of the lake, which makes you forget about the drops of sweat on your forehead. If you would prefer to look around sitting in a horse-drawn carriage or on a bike it is also possible.

On the slopes of the hills surrounding the village there are vineyards producing fine, quality wine. The wine cellars recalling the atmosphere of the 19th century is real part of the landscape of the Balaton Highlands. The village itself belongs to the historical Balatonfüred-Csopak Wine District.

Tourists coming here are accommodated in homely furnished houses, apartments or rooms owned and maintained by our experienced hosts. The prices are reasonable, and besides hospitality you can also enjoy ’the fine juice of the hills’.

The younger generation is warmly welcomed in small log-cabins in the children’s camp in the picturesque Malomvölgy (Mill’s Valley) where they can take part in excellent free-time programs.

The Hungarian Sea and Veszprém known as the Queens’ Town is within a few-minute drive from Felsõõrs, or it does not take much longer if you decide to go by bike either. Veszprém is a great place for shopping and sightseeing.
